Story from Tripitaka

Retold by “Siames CAT”

Translated to English by “Hui-Ha”

In the former time,

there was a great bird leading his followers

to reside at a big tree.

All birds live there happily and safely.

            One day later,

there was a big storm causing a gusty wind

blowing stronger and stronger.

The branches of the big tree

 rub against each other continuously

and caused a small amount of smoke.

The herd leader bird saw the smoke rising up,

even only a small fume, but noticing an unusual sky,

it foresee that this would certainly

cause fire and ravage the tree soon

before the rain pore down to put the fire out.

 “This is dangerous now.

We shouldn’t stay here any longer.

Let’s go to find for new resident.”

Thinking so,

the great bird called his followers

 for a meeting in order

 to warn about the peril

and tell them the plan to survive.

Some birds believed their leader

that even this tree was their contented resident  for a long time

till they feel bounded to move,

but now it was dangerous place

 and they should leave urgently.

Therefore,

they left the big tree escaping along

with the great bird that day.

The left birds still attached with the pleasant receiving

from the big tree and didn’t want to move to a new place.

They thought that…

“How do they afraid of crocodile

only seeing one drop of water.

Just a small fume of smoke,

they think over to a disastrous fire.

How craven our master was?

This tree was useful for us.

We won’t move to other place anymore.”

Because of the negligence

and seizing in old things in life,

they further live on that tree.

Moreover,

they sleep soundly like a log.

Not so long,

 the branches that move along

with the wind continuously

rub against each other harder and harder

 and suddenly caught in fire.

According to the strong wind,

the fire spread all over the bush quickly

till the tree became the sea of fire.

The birds that were still on the tree

were burnt to death in their sleep.

They had no chance

even to be in conscious of the time

their lives flew out in the fire.

This story gives us an idea that :

The wisdom one surely be conscience to save himself

and won’t let himself fall in dangerous

because of negligence or even the seizing of old unusable thing.
